Akasha Hub

History

ENGLISH: The Akasha Hub project began 5 years ago, after finding an old industrial space where we could renovate, set up work and event spaces and build our community. The space is made up of 2 large warehouse spaces, each 280m2. The building is an old metal and glass factory which was founded in 1937 as a lathe factory for the military. We found the building is a neglected state. It had been unoccupied for some time and the government had plans to demolish it along with other buildings on the street. Instead, we renovated the space, having to re-do the electricity, water, ceiling, and now feel very proud to have put our bets on the potential of this space. Little by little we have been able to set up the space for our needs and the needs of our members, collaborators and the activities we host. We host talks, workshops, and events, and welcome new comers to come to our space to discuss project ideas or possible collaborations. The first warehouse space is set up for thinking, meeting, and learning, and collaborating. The second space is workshop with machines for working with metal, wood, electronics, and textiles. This workshop space opens up to a garden where we welcome members to work with plants and collaborate with local urban gardening projects. We also have established a relationship with the Urban Garden of El Clot and plan to host activities in collaboration with them. ESPAÑOL: El proyecto Akasha Hub comenzó hace 5 años, después de encontrar un antiguo espacio industrial donde podríamos renovar, crear espacios de trabajo y eventos y construir nuestra comunidad. El espacio se compone de 2 grandes naves de 280m2 cada una. El edificio es una antigua fábrica de tornos que se fundó en 1937 como fábrica de clavos para el ejército. Encontramos el edificio en un estado de abandono. Llevaba tiempo desocupado y el gobierno tenía previsto demolerlo junto con otros edificios de la calle. En lugar de eso, renovamos el espacio, teniendo que rehacer la electricidad, el agua, el techo, y ahora nos sentimos muy orgullosos de haber apostado por el potencial de este espacio. Poco a poco hemos ido acondicionando el espacio a nuestras necesidades y a las de nuestros miembros, colaboradores y las actividades que acogemos. Acogemos charlas, talleres y eventos, y invitamos a los interesados a venir a nuestro espacio para discutir ideas de proyectos o posibles colaboraciones. El primer espacio del almacén está preparado para pensar, reunirse, aprender y colaborar. El segundo espacio es un taller con máquinas para trabajar el metal, la madera, la electrónica y el textil. Este espacio de taller se abre a un jardín donde acogemos a miembros para trabajar con plantas y colaborar con proyectos locales de jardinería urbana. También hemos establecido una relación con el Huerto Urbano de El Clot y planeamos organizar actividades en colaboración con ellos.
