Abigail Wastie Textiles

History

Since a child Abigail has been a passionate advocate for sustainable ethical manufacturing. As an adult starting to purchase her own wardrobe Abigail wanted to dress ethically but was unable to afford premium ethical clothing prices so Abigail started to make her own clothes which after many years resulted in an entirely handmade, organic cotton and plastic trim free wardrobe. Alongside this Abigail worked in a local luxury fashion brand, Paul Smith, as a fabric technologist and garment technical developer. After a short career break with young children, Abigail had a little exhibition on her tapestry’s, weavings and handmade clothes in her friends living room which snow-balled over lockdown into her own business. Two years on and Abigail has taught a great number of students and sold hundreds of eco craft kits showing students simple ways they can shop less and make in more sustainable ways. Alongside her business Abigail also works freelance offering fabric and garment technical support to sustainable textile start ups.
