We are excited to announce that Make Works is expanding in five more regions!
You can now follow the emergence of Make Works Vienna, Budapest, Iceland, Paris and Catalonia. Each region has their own unique approach and local story to tell. While some of them focus on a specific area of interest, such as for example i.e. the fishing industry in Iceland, others are setting up a broad repository of diverse skills in their region.
Make Works has become part of the Distributed Design Platform and the European Project CENTRINNO. While connecting to other existing communities, platforms and EU Projects we hope to support the network development. The five emerging regions are part of these two initiatives and have also become part of our community of manufacturer finders. Each region is showcasing their approach on their regions page and will share more interesting insights in our stories in the future.
We are happy to collaboratively showcase across Europe the potential of creative, talented people, making local manufacturing accessible. And we are thrilled to make you part of this journey.
Distributed Design Platform
Distributed Design Platform acts as an exchange and networking hub for the European Maker Movement. The initiative aims at developing and promoting the connection between designers, makers and the market. Together with the Distributed Design Platform we hope to support the network of creatives. Make Works Vienna, Budapest, and Iceland, are being established with the Distributed Design Platform members: Happy Lab Vienna from Austria, Fab Lab Budapest from Hungary and Thekkingarsetur Vestmannaeyja from Iceland.
Since late 2020, Make Works has been part of CENTRINNO. CENTRINNO aims for a new industrial revolution that puts citizens at the core of a sustainable transformation. CENTRINNO is a research project focused on industrial historical sites under transformation. It will showcase the potential of these cultural landscapes to become new and inclusive hubs of entrepreneurship for city residents while fostering sustainability.
CENTRINNO works in pilots covering a wide geographic extension and cultural realities across 9 cities of 4 different sizes. With the support of the CENTRINNO pilot partners, the regions of Paris and Catalonia (starting in the neighbourhood Poblenou in Barcelona) are emerging.
Through the collaboration with existing communities, platforms and EU Projects, we are hoping to support each other, in valid frameworks, and for a long lasting region development. We are learning while we are doing, and we will share more of our experiences in the near future!
