History

In 2006 Get A Grip co-founder Sam started an environmentally friendly clothing brand, Huk Apparel. After struggling to find an environmentally friendly screen printer, when he did, although the prints were good, the price was high and service left something to be desired. In 2007 Sam founded Eco-Merch LTD, an environmentally friendly screen printing services supplying only organic cotton and other sustainable garments and printing with 100% waterbased inks. Meanwhile, Kay had been developing her brand and print service, Cut-Out Shop, out of her garage in Wolverhampton. Again using only waterbased inks. They met through Kay's shared shop in the Custard Factory, Birmingham in 2009. After discovering they shared the same ideas and brand aesthetics, they started Get A Grip Studio in 2009. In 2012, Kay left to move south and now co-runs a record label in Exeter. Sam was joined by Lucy in 2014, incorporating the company as Sustainable Supply Ltd, but still trading as Get A Grip Studio. In 2017 Get A Grip (as a trading name of Sustainable Supply Ltd) became an organic certified screen printers, certified by the Soil Association to the Global Organic Textile Standards. In April 2017, Get A grip returned to Sam's original routes and stopped printing on any non organic/non sustainable fabrics. They have only ever used Water Based Inks.
