With December looming and four months of heavy snowfall forecast ahead of us, now is the time to get prepared for winter. Luckily, there are lots of companies manufacturing in Scotland that can help!
Soon to be listed on Make Works, Wonky Woolies is a knitwear company producing handmade bobble hats in Glasgow. Alongside their own range of hats, you can also order a custom bobble hat with your own design.
Unfortunately a big part of the Scottish winter is the rain. Montrose Rope and Sail will basically waterproof anything. They produce bespoke tarpaulin shapes for outdoors, as well as epic waterproof bags and rucksacks.
There are so many fantastic fabricators on Make Works producing scarves so it’s really impossible to pick one. Be sure to check out Esk Valley Knitwear, Alex Begg & Co, Eribe Knitwear and Skye Weavers.
It’s not all about clothes, you’ve got to keep your house nice and warm, and the best way to do that is with an old fashioned fire. You can find local firewood at most sawmills. On Make Works there’s Real Wood Studios, Scottish Wood and Brodies Timber.
Rugs will make your home much cosier, especially in a lofty tenement block. In Girvan, Ayrshire you’ll find world-renowned rug company, Turnberry Rugs, who make bespoke rugs from natural fibres. They’ve worked with clients as diverse as The Vatican and The Big Brother House, they also frequently do commissions for people’s homes.
Calzeat are a mill based in Biggar, who specialise in the production of Jacquard fabric for interiors. You might recognise the name from their retail shops in Edinburgh and in The Borders selling accessories and clothes, Calzeat also offer a manufacturing service to trade. They produce fabric for upholstery, curtains and fashion and recently produced a set of curtains for The White House!
