Production details

NUMU offers custom material development and fabrication built around Palmyco, its proprietary mycelium bio-composite. Core capabilities include grown decorative acoustic panels for interior designers and boutique hospitality, and pressed composite boards for events, brand activations, and temporary architecture both produced from regional agricultural waste including date-palm fibre and spent mushroom substrate. NUMU works directly with designers and architects to develop bespoke panel geometries, textures, and finishes using in-house molds and a proprietary hot-arid growth and pressing process, and is completing fire and acoustic certification to support architectural specification.

History

Founded in 2025 by French material designer Andy Cartier, NUMU builds on more than seven years of experience developing and industrialising mycelium materials across Europe. Now based in Dubai, the company has developed Palmyco, a proprietary mycelium and date-palm-waste bio-composite adapted to the UAE's climate. Their work includes Beyond Chrysant, a grown acoustic installation in the Netherlands, ReRoot, a bio-based emergency shelter presented during Dubai Design Week, and a pilot installation at KAVE, Alserkal Avenue. NUMU is also contributing to research for the Doha Biennale and has been approached by an aerospace company to explore mycelium materials for future space applications.
