Make Works Residencies

Embedding artists and designers in industry

Make Works used to run residency programmes, focussing on the connection between artists, designers, materials and manufacturing. These residencies were about encouraging process and material experimentation rather than focussing too heavily on an end-product ready for market. We may explore in the future how to reignite this programme, stay tuned.

2017 Residency Programme: Dundee Design Festival

We worked with Dundee Design Festival to deliver three Designer x Factory partnerships, which provided artists and makers with the time and space to develop their ideas, plus support from technicians and machinists. Read more here

2015 Residency Programme: Hospitalfield

We worked with Hospitalfield Arts in Arbroath to develop an artist in industry Residency Programme. This placed artists and designers to work in factories over a six month residency period. Read more here.

2013 Residency Programme

We invited eight cross-disciplinary practitioners to join us on the Make Works Tour.

Each resident was able to explore the landscapes, factories and workshops we visited for 5 days at a time on the road. You can hear about their experiences on our weekly Radio Show and blog posts from each resident.

In 2014, we held a small event bringing all eight residents together to discuss their contrasting experiences.

The Make Works Residency Programme was supported by The Jerwood Charitable Foundation.
