Welcome to Make Works Budapest curated by Fab Lab Budapest. As a new member of Make Works, we laid emphasis on small independent local workshops with a focus on the ceramic industry, but we also aimed to highlight the diversity of the region by presenting manufacturers in the field of textile, printing, or digital fabrication. The listed factories and workshops aim to show the up and coming local creative scene of Budapest.
Budapest represents a strong center in commerce, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment in Hungary. It’s is characterized by diverse industry players with an emerging sector of light industries such as textile, paper, wood, and crafts. Our aim is to support the local creative community by making the emerging creative hub of Budapest more accessible and visible globally.
Founded in 2011, FabLab Budapest is part of an international open innovation network with more than 1,750 members, presented in more than 100 countries. Our leading service is prototype development and production of installations and custom products. We are equipped for the manufacturing of prototypes and small-scale production. But FabLab Budapest is more than a simple design and manufacturing workshop. The network aims to democratize access to digital manufacturing technologies and related knowledge. The technologies we use were previously only available for the industry, so we place great emphasis on nurturing talent, sharing our expertise with infrastructure. The users of the Lab form an inspiring community. Many successful design and technology projects started with a simple conversation.
We are Réka, Milán, and Dávid, enthusiasts of local fabricators and manufacturers and always looking for new ways and opportunities to collaborate with the creative sector.
David is the CEO and founder of FabLab Budapest. Digital fabrication expert and lecturer at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design. His areas of specialty are the overlaps of technology, cultural and creative industries. He believes in bottom-up innovation and helps others to shape their ideas into real prototypes.
Réka is an editor at design and lifestyle magazine Hype&Hyper, and a project manager at the open innovation lab FabLab Budapest. She always likes to discover and share inspiring new stories related to contemporary crafts and also considers it very important to know the faces behind small workshops and design brands that are forming the local creative scene.
