Production details

Working on a commission starts with a studio visit by appointment, to understand ideas and the technical aspects of carving stone by hand. Samples materials, portfolio pieces and work in process are also on show. The workshop has specific equipment such as a lifting gantry to make my stones, and an outside area to make dust - i.e. angle-grinding. Clients should come with an idea, ready-to-go drawings, files or sketches. We can discuss the suitability of specific stone type, location, scale, letterforms, carving style, timetables and cost. Typical clients are individuals, councils & architects and no previous knowledge is required.

History

I have been self-employed as a stone carver ever since 1995. I started my business after completing my degree at GSA in Ceramics & then a 2 year course in stonemasonry & carving in Weymouth, Dorset. I really wanted to immerse myself in the world of stone & have been working with mainly British stones ever since.
